Lesson content
In individual or small group lessons of 30, 45 or 60 minutes, attention is paid to musicality, technical skills, theoretical knowledge and listening skills.
The basis is a weekly lesson, especially for beginners. For the more advanced student, the interval between lessons is more flexible.
The amount and type of content covered in the lessons is partly dependent on the student(s).
Every lesson will have an element of technique, theory, and music. It is essential that students also play at home at least five days a week, to learn the exercises,
read the occasional text, and increase their skill in the playing of and listening to the music discussed in the lessons.
For the beginner, this amounts to about 15 to 20 minutes a day; for the average player, 20 to 30 minutes; for the advanced player 30 to 60 minutes.
The student receives a CD with fragments of mostly panflute music, from different genres and by different players.
This way, the student can start to form an idea of the sound of the instrument: what would I like to hear, and how do I get there?
This is important in the process of slowly making the student more independent in their playing.
Beginners do not have to be able to read music notation; especially in the beginning of the lessons there will be an auditive approach.
Only after a certain amount of lessons will music notation be introduced.
Even when the student is able to read music, there will be regular practise by ear, to train hearing and memory.
When the student has developed a sufficient amount of skills, ensemble playing is encouraged. At first this will be limited to panflute duo’s and trio’s,
but soon will be expanded to ensembles with a freer instrumentation.
This is done through projects, but also by inviting to the lessons friends, family members or classmates who play an instrument themselves.
